FuNniEs!

I thought I would document some of Addison's funny moments from the past few days.  That way we don't forget how silly she is - or how crazy her parents are!

"Mommy, I want to take a bath!" - I was in the kitchen cooking lunch when I heard Addie in the bathroom throwing toys in the bathtub.  I decided to check on her quickly because I really don't like her playing in the bathroom anyway.  Our routine for bath is that Addie gets to throw in the toys that she wants to play with from her basket while the tub is filling with water...so here Addie is, in the middle of the day putting them in.  I just stood in the doorway quietly watching her play.  All of the sudden she sits down takes her socks off.  Once she has accomplished this she starts trying to take her shirt off.  When she was unsuccessful in that, she starting trying to pull her pants off!  Obviously she can't really do either of these, so she then just started putting up her leg, in the hope that she might be able to get into a bath (dressed) that is almost as tall as her!  At this point I couldn't help but laugh!  She looked at me and pointed to the tub to let me know she wanted to take a bath!

The Orajel Disaster! - Addie has been teething and the only time we really do anything for her is at night, because it really doesn't seem to bother her any other time.  At night we give her a dose of Tylenol (generic) and put some night-time Orajel on her gums.  On this particular night Addie decided she really didn't want Orajel put in her mouth (don't blame her) and she tossed her face all around as I tried to put it in her mouth.  I am sure this resulted in the numbing of much of her mouth...oops!  Before bed we rock, read a book, and have a bottle.  As we were rocking and Addie was drinking her bottle, she continued to take it out of her mouth and shake her bottle saying, "baba?"  She would shake it up and down - side to side. When she does this, it usually means she wants more milk because her milk is gone.  This was not the case though.  She still had milk in her bottle, but I don't think she could feel half her mouth and she thought the milk was gone!  I felt terrible because I hate it when you come back from the dentist with a numb mouth!

Copycat - Addie's language skills have really advanced these past few weeks.  She has almost 20 words in her vocabulary that she is able verbalize to us and understand what they mean.  BUT, she can "say" many more...  She loves to copy whatever you say, so we have really been watching what is said around our house.  One that she has learned from Mommy is "geez!"  She doesn't know what it means, but says it whenever you say it out loud. I never realized until she started saying it, how much I say that word every day! She then proceeds to walk around the house saying it!  Other funny words that she will copy when you say...  WooHoo, vroom (like a car), animal noises, and just about any other fairly simple word (when she is in the mood!)!  She also likes to copy words when you are reading her books.  She loves to read books and whenever she is upset this is how we calm her down!

Hungry Baby - Addie was playing with her doll today and had her sippy cup with her.  I heard her saying "num, num, num." and when I looked over she was feeding her baby the sippy cup!  How cute is that?!!  She loves her baby and she picks it up and gives her baby hugs and kisses!  She is going to be a good momma in about 30 years - at LEAST!

On another note: We are trying to wean Addie off her bottle right now.  It is so frustrating because she is so attached to this thing when she is tired.  We have started taking away her morning bottle, which has been VERY rough these past few days.  We had a really rough time this morning and it seems to set the tone for the day.  I am hoping that this gets easier because around next week her nap bottle is going too!  I just can't believe we are at this point already.  It makes me so sad that our baby is turning into a toddler...

To the Pumpkin Patch We Went...

On Saturday Addie made her first trip to the pumpkin patch! We all had so much fun!  Dan planned on going with us, until he got called to work...  We were so disappointed and so was he.  But we had this planned with Max and my mom and the weather was SO beautiful that we didn't pass it up!  It was 80 degrees here in Iowa!! Can you believe that?!!  

Addie had a blast just walking EVERYWHERE!  The ground she could cover was almost limitless and she was lovin' it!  I was surprised to see how well she was able to walk in all the uneven grass.  She even attempted to walk through the pumpkin patch, but that didn't go so well!

Addie even petted her first little goats while we were there!  She is such a farm girl and was not afraid of them at all.  She was sticking her hands in their mouth and petting them.

The best thing about this pumpkin patch is that you get to take horses out to the pumpkin patch to pick the perfect pumpkin!

They also had this horse made of cornstalks.  It was pretty cool!  Addie loved being on it and thought she was a pretty big girl!

 

They also had a jump house, which Addie wanted to get in so bad.  She would have been smothered though.  So the little girl running it asked if she wanted to jump on the step!  What great thinking!  She loved it!

 

After the pumpkin patch we decided to go and play in the park since it was so nice out.  Addie could crawl around so well and walked through the equipment.  She really enjoyed herself and loves to play with her Uncle Max!

We got home and my mom said that Max took a three hour nap.  Addie didn't take one at ALL!  What is up with that?!  She did go to bed about an hour early though, so I guess that counts...  I only wish this weather would stay like this.  I am dreading the cold days that lie ahead!  Going to enjoy this while it lasts!

The Joys of Fall...

Oh, how I love fall.  There are so many things to enjoy in the fall.  Some of our favs include...

1. The Vibrant colors.  How beautiful it is to see the leaves change colors and enjoy the scenery.  Crunching through the leave on the ground as you walk.  And the leaves blowing through the yard.  Got to love it!

2. Apple Festivals!  The smell of apple cider brewing and the delicious juicy bites of those honey crisp apples.  You just can't beat it!  We took our little trip to Wisconsin last weekend and stopped at the apple festival on our way home.  It was cold and windy, so not so ideal for Addie.  She loved the petting zoo and eating apples though!  They also had a pumpkin patch there!

3. FOOTBALL!  It's nice to have a brother still in high school so we can go and watch football games!  We go when it is nice out.  It's hard to take Addie in the cold.  On the flip side we love watching football in the house too! 

4. Trip to the pumpkin patch.  We took our trip today!  Addie had a blast and was walking all over the place.  I was surprised to watch how well she did on all the uneven ground.  We picked our pumpkin, jumped, rode a wagon out to the pumpkins, petted baby goats...and I will post more on our trip later!

5. The cold crisp mornings when it is too early to turn on the heat, so you lay in bed under the nice warm covers, never wanting to get out.  Although, we have a little telling us otherwise!

6. Raking the leaves and jumping in them!  Oh, and the memories of filling those giant bags that looked like pumpkins when we were little.

7. Pumpkin carving.  We are so excited to help Addie carve her first pumpkin this year!

8. Decorating my house in the fall is my favorite.  There is so much you can do and it's not too cold to decorate outdoors either!

9. The harvest of crops and the farmers so hard at work, including my husband!  Although I do dislike getting stuck behind tractors as I am driving...lol!!

10. Looking forward to the holidays.  Thanksgiving, Christmas, and now Halloween.  Halloween should be much more enjoyable now that we have a little goblin to dress up!

little miss independent...

Since our little Addie turned the big ol' ONE, it seems like she has felt the need to accomplish everything on her own! 

This weekend we went to the World Dairy Expo in Madison.  I know, sounds fun, right?!!  This is really like Dan's Disney World!  Anyway, this thing is HUGE!  There are people from all over the world that attend and the place is packed.  We took Addie along to see the moos and she demanded much of the time, that we allow her to walk.  Wasn't the most convenient place, and we pretty much held everyone up who was trying to walk through the exhibits!  Thank goodness we have a cute child, so no one really minded (except for her parents).  They thought it was cute.  Little miss independent had to walk on her own!

Addie is now walking all over the house and getting into more trouble.  I didn't think that was even possible!

Funny story about this shirt... Addie loves kitties and she says the word kitty with kind of a purr.  She would look at her shirt all day and say "kitty."  I showed her the picture on the computer and she looked at the computer, looked at her shirt, looked at the computer again, saying "kitty?" So cute how she noticed that it was the same shirt she had on!  She is such a smart little girl!

Along with walking, comes the independence of getting dressed!  Addie has always done well getting dressed.  She puts her hands through the arm holes herself, picks up her legs for me, and picks up her feet for me to put socks on.  Again, new extremes.  Today she wanted to put her shirt on when we were getting dressed for the day.  Tonight, it was her socks!  The problem is that she is not very good at it!  But we give her an A+ for effort!

If you can't get your sock on your foot, why not try it on your head?!!

Or try and eat it!

We plan on having a pretty low-key kind of October here!  I think we are just going to try and enjoy this weather while it lasts!  Goodnight!

and we celebrated...

Today we celebrated our little Addison Marie's first birthday.  It is so hard to believe just how fast this first year has gone.  It seems like yesterday that they put that 7lb. 7oz. little girl in my arms for the very first time.  What a year this has been for us!  As Dan, Addie, and I sat down for lunch today we had the discussion on how we survived the first year of being parents.  Addie is healthy and most important - in one piece! lol!  We both then realized that it will probably just get harder from here as Addie gets older and we add more children to our family.  We came to conclusion that it is all worth it in the end!  Being parents is such a rewarding job and the most important one we will ever have in our lives!

Today we had Addison's one year pictures with Nichole Priebe.  They went well this time.  Max went with us to help get Addie in the smiling mood.  We were able to catch some pictures of the two of them as well!  After pictures we had to come home so Dan could do chores and took Max to school.  I was able to catch a few pictures of Addie while we were home and off we went to have an afternoon of fun!  We went to the park to play, did a little shopping, went out for supper, and then came home to our immediate family and celebrated Addison's birthday some more.  She did much better with her little cupcake than her giant ladybug cake!  She opened presents and played with Max.  A perfect way to end a perfect day!

It has been such a fabulous first year as parents.  We are so excited to see what the future holds for us!  Tomorrow we head for Wisconsin for a few days away!  I am a little nervous about traveling that far with Addie and making sure everything is packed.  Lets pray it all goes well!  I think the posts should slow down now!  Not so much going on from here on out!  Thank goodness, because I am ready for a break.  Hoping the weekend provides us with that!
