Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day to the MOST wonderful daddy any little girl could ask for!

We feel so lucky to have such a wonderful man in our lives.  You are such a great daddy and husband, we could not ask for more!  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you do for your girls.

"I love you through and through.  Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, too."

Love, Your Girls

Last minute plans...

We don't pull off last minute plans often.  With a 1 year old, it is slightly difficult!  But, when my mom asked if we wanted to go to a parade with her and Max on Saturday, we agreed!  Dan had chores to do on the farm, so he couldn't go (bummer), but I thought Addie would like a parade.  So, we headed out, Addie having no nap...

She actually did really well and enjoyed the parade!  She was startled by all the sirens, but LOVED picking up candy!  She did really well with the candy and had a sucker during the parade, and opened one up after the parade as we were packing up our chairs.  I really didn't want her to have another, but I wasn't going to fight with her either, so I chose not to pick that battle!

Stole Momma's chair!

Waving at the horses...

BUSTED!!

After the parade we headed to the small carnival they had.  Addie had a blast playing games and going down the giant slide!  The fun ended when the lack of a nap caught up with Miss Addie!  We decided to head home and we weren't even out of town before she fell asleep.

We met up with Mike's girlfriend Ariel and her family.  They are actually distant relatives of Dan, too!  This is Ariel's niece Savanah, who will be in Addison's class!  Addie really liked her, she kept putting her arm around her and giving her hugs.  I think they will be the best of friends!

As we were getting in our bags, Addie was ready to go down herself!
 weeee.....

Uncle Mike took Addie to play the duck game.  When she won her prize she just wanted to take one of the ducks...

but she did enjoy her fairy wand...

I was happy we decided to go, it was worth the lack of nap for Addison.  She had a blast, and so did the rest of us!!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch...

We are happy to report that Addie is feeling MUCH better and is back to her normal, full of spunk, self.  The beginning of the week was full of HOT weather, so we took full advantage and went swimming with Max.  Addie loved the little pool.  It was just her size!

Notice both knees, and her hand in this picture.  She took her first dive on the farm.  The crying didn't last too long, and stopped when she was given a kiss from momma and a Dora band-aid was put on!  I'm sure this won't be our first spill of the summer!

Peek-a-Boo!  She loves running around the house in a towel after her bath!

Every morning Addie and I head out to feed the "baby moos" as Addie likes to call them.  She loves helping around the farm, and she insists that she carry the pail back to the barn when we are done!

Addie and I love to sit in the swing and enjoy the birds, and anything else she might see...

After record-breaking heat temps, we went down to temperatures in the 50's, in just a day.  Got to love Iowa!  Addie really wanted to go outside, so we ventured out for awhile, and she rode the tractor with daddy...

Other happenings...

The kittens are doing well.  We lost the little black one, it was hard not to get attached when you have to feed them every few hours.  The other three seem to be doing okay.  I talked to the vet, who thought they were only about 3-5 days old when we got them and it is really hard to raise kittens that small.  So, we will just pray that they continue to remain healthy.

On Wednesday I started feeling cruddy again, I went to the doctor today and have strep throat for the fourth time since February.  This year has just been crazy, I have never had strep before in my life and this year it seems to want to catch up with me!

Addie isn't adjusting to my work schedule as much as I thought she would.  She does well with the first two days, but when I drop her off on the third day, she is very reluctant to let go of my leg.  She goes to my Grandma's house on Monday and Wednesday morning, Wednesday afternoon Dan's mom picks her up, and she goes to a daycare on Tuesdays.  I think they are very long days for her (and me).  I told Dan that I don't think I ever want to work a full time job again.  I could not stand to leave Addie all week long, I feel SO bad when she does not want me to leave that third day.  It feels that once I get off work, we get home around 6:30pm and we are rushing to get supper, bath, and then she is off to bed.  I don't get any quality play time with her, which is hard for me.  I am so grateful for my flexible job schedule and that I am able to be home with her when I choose.

Potty training is going really well.  She told me at story hour today when she had to go, and it was even right before our cookie song!  Still working on telling me when she had to go #2, but everyone says that it will come.  Let's hope sooner, rather than later...

Hope everyone has a great weekend.  No big plans here, just hoping to enjoy some nice weather again!

busy momma...

Wow, life at the Garbes farm has been busy these past few days!  On Wednesday night Dan had to pick up a load of hay that he had bought from a sale.  They took his Dad's trailer to bring it home, and as they were loading it, here were 4 baby kittens. The kittens still had their umbilical cords and their eyes were closed.  Today the cords are all gone and they are beginning to open their eye!  That is a wonderful sign!  All of them seem healthy and rambunctious, so I think they should be okay.  There are still very little yet and will need lots of care int he next few weeks.  I told Dan that we should have just had another baby, because these kittens are just as much work as a newborn!!  Here is a pictures of the little rascals...

To top off my sleep deprivation, I got Addie out of bed this morning to find that she had a fever.  It was 101.3 so noting big, but when it continued to rise, even with medicine, I decided I should call and get her in for an appointment.  It always seems like kids get sick on, or close to the weekend!  We went in and her doctor took one look at her throat and said, "Oh! I see the problem!"  Her temperature was at 103.8 by that time and that was an hour and a half after giving her Tylenol!  Her doctor laid her down and showed me her throat.  Sure enough, it was very red and it had white gunk all over it!  It was kind of gross!!  She thought it was probably either tonsillitis or strep, but wasn't going to test because both would be treated with antibiotics and she didn't want to upset Addie.  This is our FIRST time on antibiotics and she hates taking the bubble gum Amoxicillin!  She takes all other medicine fine, but hates this stuff, so we may have to come up with a creative way to get her to take it!

This morning Addie barely would move and when she would get up and walk, she would take about 5 steps, then lay on the floor.  She only said a few words all day, and didn't even have the energy to go on the potty.  I felt so helpless and horrible for her.  She now seems to be perking up a little bit.  She giggled for the first time about an hour ago, so that is a good sign.  Most of the day was spent watching Elmo, reading books, cuddling, and sleeping.  I am hoping she got enough rest to start feeling better.

I am praying that the weekend becomes a little less stressful and Addie is back to herself.  Between taking care of a sick Addison and very needy kittens, I may need a "do nothing" day!! For now I am going to take FULL advantage of the extra cuddle time I am getting with Addie!

Memorial Day Weekend 2011

Memorial Day weekend... The start to summer and hopefully warmer weather!

This weekend we took a little camping trip and spent Monday at home.  Addie did great while camping and actually slept better there than she does at home!  I think spending the entire day outside helped her sleep better!  It was a pretty nice weekend, but Sunday it rained most of the morning.  We left Sunday to head to my cousins graduation party, where Addie was grumpy and tired!

Here are some pictures from our camping trip...
snack time!

riding on the wagon...

on Grandpa's shoulders...

Sitting around the campfire.  She did pretty well, but we had a hard time keeping her away from it!

Good morning crazy hair!

She did SO well going on the potty while we were at the camper!

The view in our backseat when we got home...

Beautiful girl!

At Nathan's graduation party.

Notice her dirty pants.  She ran around like a crazy girl.  Everyone kept giving her suckers and I think that she must have been on a sugar high!

On Monday we spent the day unpacking from the weekend, doing laundry, and of course playing outside!  Here she is swinging with daddy...

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend as much as we did.  It sure was hard to back to work on Tuesday, especially since I started my long days!! I really have a new respect for parents that work all day, 5 days per week.  I am barely making it, and I have only worked 2 full days!  How do those parents have any energy when they get home?!!  Anyway...it should get easier and those FOUR day weekends are going to be AWESOME!! :-)
